An H-shaped automotive rubber seal does two jobs at once: it protects the sharp panel edge from rust and hand injuries, and it seals the gap where two door components meet. Its cross-section looks like a capital H: two flanges that straddle the panel edge, connected by a web, with a sealing lip on the outer face that presses against the mating surface. This makes the H-shaped profile a popular choice when the door frame has a visible metal edge rather than a hidden groove.
On a box truck door seal, the H-profile covers the raw cut edge of the steel door panel while the outer lip seals against the interior panel, preventing both water ingress and rust creep. On a shipping container door weatherstrip, the same edge-straddling design protects the corten steel edge from chipping and seals out salt spray. On a refrigerated truck and reefer door seal, the H-profile is often used around the door opening where the insulated panel meets the aluminum frame, covering the foam edge and sealing the gap. For passenger car and commercial vehicle door rubber weatherstrip, smaller H-profiles are used around window channels and door sills.
H-shaped seals are available in a range of sizes from 17# up to 40#, with colored options including black, black-and-white, yellow, grey, blue-and-green, and red-and-white. The color choices matter on branded service fleets, where a colored seal makes the sealing edge visible during installation and quick to inspect during maintenance.
Because the H-profile clips over the edge rather than into a groove, it is a versatile retrofit solution. It can be used on door frames that were originally designed for a different seal style, and it can be removed and replaced without damaging the panel. Extruded from EPDM weatherstrip compound, it combines edge protection and weather sealing in a single, cost-effective component.
