Window Channel Seals and EPDM Weatherstrip: Sealing Glass in Truck Doors

2026-09-23

The door seal seals the door to the frame. But the window moves. The glass goes up and down. The window channel seal is the EPDM weatherstrip that seals the glass. It keeps rain out. It reduces wind noise. It keeps the glass from rattling. For a box truck door seal, a shipping container door weatherstrip, a refrigerated truck and reefer door seal, and a passenger car and commercial vehicle door rubber weatherstrip, the window channel seal is part of the system.

The window channel seal is a rubber U-channel that the glass slides through. The EPDM has a low-friction coating so the glass moves easily. It also has a wiper lip that presses against the glass. This keeps water out and noise down.

When the window channel seal wears, the glass rattles. Wind noise increases. Water leaks in. The window does not go up smoothly.

For a passenger car and commercial vehicle door rubber weatherstrip, the window channel seal is replaced with the door seal. Both age together.

For a box truck door seal, the cab windows have channel seals. The cargo doors usually do not have windows.

For a shipping container door weatherstrip, the doors have small vent windows with channel seals.

For a refrigerated truck and reefer door seal, the cab windows have channel seals.

Maintain the window channel seal. Clean it. Lubricate it with a silicone product. If it wears, replace it.

The takeaway is that the EPDM weatherstrip system includes the window channel. A complete seal means the door and window both seal.
